Feminist Scolding of Young Women to ´Vote Hillary´ Backfires

If Hillary supporting feminist, Gloria Steinem meant to
outrage women all across the country with her commentary she has done a remarkable job. The famed feminist explained on Bill Maher, ¨“When you’re young, you’re thinking: ‘Where are the boys? The boys are with Bernie,’ ” in an attempt to turn back the tide of woman backing Bernie Sanders and redirect them towards Hillary Clinton. Attempts to push off the incident as a ´misquote´ have been met with less than stellar results. Add Madeleine Albright´s over toted quote, ¨There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other!”¨ to the mix and even I take enough offense to write out on the subject.

Albright´s statement speaks to the part of me which has always stood up for my rights as a woman. The right to vote I take very seriously. Women didn´t just get to sign up at the polls like the men did. Courage and sacrifice were needed to gain our right to vote. The same courage necessary to make a decision regardless of ´a special place in hell for women who don´t help each other.´ Frankly such a blanket statement is completely ridiculous in this world. Should we all have supported Sarah Palin for Vice President since she was a woman? Or does this ideal solely depend on the political whims of a Democrat like Albright? Are American women or just Bernie Sanders followers supposed to follow this idea? Does this mean women in Germany are going to hell as the majority of citizens (regardless of sex) no longer support their woman chancellor, Angela Merkel?

Steinem´s statement comes across even worse. I cringe at thinking of what was running through her mind at the time. Did a secret boy crazy teen fantasy from her youth word vomit out? Was this an actual polished attempt to shame woman into voting for Hillary? How naive does she think young women are today? Isn´t there a supposed belief wisdom comes along with age? Attempting to placate her interview statement with a hurried pat on the back ´you just misunderstood me´ sets off my tachycardia with a vengeance. Apologies ring hollow when they come only after a backlash of criticism from those same ´boy crazy´ females you rashly commented on.

Comments like these have twisted Hillary´s attempts to manipulate sexism as a weapon for voting direction. How incredibly sexist of her to fullfill the critics claim of woman voting only for Hillary because she is a woman. Applause for her honesty in having Albright loudly declare it to the world. If this is the future relationship between politics and feminism count me out of the movement.

The Author L.Krause:
I am an avid news reader of publications ranging from The New York Times to The Japan Times with everything in between. I find the evil Republican or Die Fox News! rhetoric to be downright petty. Political correctness at times borders on humorous in this country. I search for the facts not a bunch of BS accompanying it. I am wary of our media and even warier of those who don´t take responsibility for their actions. To make my view less complicated: I am an independent who is going to choose a candidate based on policy not political party.
